The deputies voted that Marek Kuchcinski will be the Speaker of the Sejm of the 8th term. -I consider this election as a commitment to work for the good of the Republic of Poland - said the newly elected Speaker, taking the chair from the senior Speaker.

Marek Kuchciński thanked the Sejm for placing its trust in him. He gave special thanks to Senior Speaker Kornel Morawiecki for his services to Poland's independence. -He is a Legendary Man, a "Solidarity" Man - emphasized the Speaker of the Sejm.

– Assuming this dignity, I am aware of the importance of the institution of the Speaker of the Sejm, not only in the process of making good laws and fulfilling the control function of the House towards the Council of Ministers (...) - Marek Kuchciński said. He noted that in Polish tradition and political culture the Sejm has always been a forum for debate and disputes. - We Members are also different today, but each of us individually and all of us collectively represent the nation in all its political complexity - he said. Speaker Kuchciński recalled that the Sejm's duty is "first and foremost to legislate for the common good." - The Sejm cannot make good laws without consultation and against the interests of the public - he added.

– Fulfilling the powers of the Speaker of the Sejm, I will guard the freedom of speech of MPs, regardless of their party affiliation, and the right to debate between the ruling camp and opposition parties - Marshal Kuchciński assured. He also stressed that he will cooperate with the President of the Republic of Poland and the new Council of Ministers.

According to the Rules of Procedure of the Sejm, the House elects the Speaker by an absolute majority vote in the presence of at least 230 MPs.
