Foreign Affairs Committee chairmen call on Russia to withdraw its troops from over the Ukrainian border and Belarusian territory

We, the chairmen of the committees of our parliaments, in connection with the ongoing build-up of military forces near the Russian-Ukrainian border and in occupied Crimea, as well as in connection with joint military exercises of Russia and Belarus:

We call on Russia to deescalate the situation, withdraw its troops from over the Ukrainian border and the territory of Belarus;

We reiterate that any further aggression against Ukraine will have enormous consequences and will incur serious costs, including restrictive measures coordinated with partners. We urge Russia not to recognize the government-controlled regions of Donetsk and Luhansk as independent entities, as this would be a clear violation of Ukraine's territorial integrity and sovereignty;

We call on Belarus to ensure complete transparency during the Russia-Belarus joint military exercises "Allied Determination 2022", in the context of the strength and composition of military troops, weapons and military equipment, as well as the plan for the return of these forces to their places of stationing.

We call on Russia and Belarus to ensure that their political and military commitments comply with the principles of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).
