Zofia Romaszewska receives Lech Kaczyński Award

Today (4.02.) in the Polish Parliament, Zofia Romaszewska received the award of the Social Movement named after President Lech Kaczyński and headed by Law and Justice MP Maciej Łopiński.

During the ceremony, chaired by Jacek Sasin, MP, the profile of Zofia Romaszewska - her life and services to Polish society - was presented by Professor Włodzimierz Bernacki, who emphasized that "with her activity and commitment, everyday hardship and civil courage, she taught how to be morally irreproachable in those difficult times of communism, which Poland had to endure". He also emphasized that she gave hope and support not only morally, but also financially and legally, and recalled the preparation of the Madrid Report, describing the violation of rights in the People's Republic of Poland.

"It is not about political views but moral values, Zofia Romaszewska used to say, and that is the main reason for granting this award". - he added.

The President of Law and Justice Jaroslaw Kaczynski spoke at the award ceremony.

"With Zofia Romaszewska we know each other for 25 years. We met at a meeting in Mazowiecka Street, and then we worked together for years. - He said, noting that he wanted to highlight the lesser-known elements of Zofia's biography, her underground activities in '82, and her organization of a radio station.

"Tanks on the streets, the conviction that the authorities can do anything - all this made a huge impression on the Poles (...) Fortunately, in those difficult times there were people who opposed the system and the policy of the then authorities," Jarosław Kaczyński pointed out.

In his opinion, Zofia Romaszewska was one of those people who brought hope and raised the morale of the society.

"Today's laurel in the form of an award for Zofia Romaszewska is a thank you for such an active, motivating life story. Zofia Romaszewska went down in the history of Poland with golden notes" - concluded the President of the Law and Justice party.
