XXVIII edition of the conference Europe of the Carpathians: presentation of the Visegrad Atlas

During the conference Europe of the Carpathians, which will be held on 27-28 February this year, the Visegrad Atlas edited by Prof. Przemysław Śleszyński and Dr. Konrad Czapiewski will be presented.

The publication is a project realized by the Polish Geographical Society (PTG) in the framework of the competition of the Wacław Felczak Institute for Polish-Hungarian Cooperation. Patronage over the publication was taken by the Prime Minister.

This is the first published monograph presenting the natural, social, cultural and economic diversity of the countries forming the Visegrad Group (Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia and Hungary). It shows the variety of factors determining the development of the region. The authors comprehensively describe geographical processes and phenomena which are the result of the intertwining of historical and contemporary developmental conditions. Despite thirty years of existence of the V4 Group, no comprehensive and exhaustive study of the diverse foundations of this geographical area has been written.

The main part of the Atlas consists of 50 synthetic chapters, covering issues that contemporary geographical atlases and comprehensive monographs set out to present. Of particular importance is transport infrastructure and accessibility, to which 6 chapters are devoted. V4 countries are still a neglected area in terms of transport and settlement cohesion and mutual accessibility.

The monograph was prepared by a group of over 40 authors, cartographers and editors who are recognized specialists in the presented issues. These people are employees of Polish Academy of Sciences and leading Polish universities as well as geography enthusiasts and members of Polish Geographical Society.

We invite you to follow the special event within the framework of the international conference Europe of the Carpathians, which will be the presentation of the publication by Prof. Przemysław Śleszyński on 27 February at 9:30 am
