A meeting between the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Sejm Marek Kuchcinski and the Deputy Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan Sherzod Asadov took place today. Minister Asadov came to Poland as part of political consultations between foreign ministries. Marek Kuchciński thanked for the initiative to extend the program of the visit to include parliamentary meetings and expressed hope that they will contribute to the deepening of mutual relations, also at this level. Inter-parliamentary cooperation is evidenced by the fact that the Polish-Uzbekistan Parliamentary Group was established in the Sejm on 25 February this year, and a similar friendship group already exists in the Parliament of Uzbekistan since June 2020. With the initiation of the reform program in Uzbekistan in 2016, new opportunities for the development of bilateral contacts have emerged, and an effective recovery program is crucial, not only for the further development of Uzbekistan, but also for the processes taking place in the entire Central Asian region. Poland can support Uzbekistan in its reforms and share our experience in the process of political and economic transformation. The President expressed his satisfaction with the growing trade exchange and his hope to maintain this trend in the future, after overcoming the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Minister Asadov declared that his country remains determined in carrying out the currently implemented reforms and declared his will to develop cooperation with Poland in all aspects of bilateral cooperation. He stated that Poland is one of the most important partners for Uzbekistan in Central Europe, not only from a political but also from an economic point of view. The Minister thanked Poland for its solidarity with Uzbekistan in the era of the COVID-19 pandemic, which was manifested, among others, in the transfer of humanitarian aid to Uzbekistan in November 2020 of medicines, personal protective equipment and disinfecting materials. The meeting also focused on opportunities and possibilities for deepening multilateral cooperation between the Visegrad Group and the countries of Central Asia.
