On Wednesday, August 10, the Deputy Speaker of the Polish Parliament Marek Kuchcinski visited Brzozow, where he took part in the Holy Mass for the Homeland and for the Victims of the tragic Smolensk catastrophe. After the mass the Marshal and the parliamentarians accompanying him (Senator Alicja Zając, MP Adam Śnieżek, and Senator Stanisław Piotrowicz), as well as local residents and government activists (including Tadeusz Pióro, a councillor of the Provincial Assembly, and Henryk Kozik, the Chairman of the Brzozowski District Council) laid wreaths and flowers at the Katyn Cross and at the plaque commemorating the victims of the most tragic air crash in the history of Poland. Marshal Kuchciński and the parliamentarians then met with the town's residents.
During the Mass in the historic Church of the Transfiguration of Our Lord, concelebrated under the guidance of Monsignor Eugeniusz Nycz, an extremely patriotic homily was delivered by Father Pawel Pelc. He appealed for our civic attitude and love of our Homeland to be authentic: "so that it results from the need of the heart, and not from some calculation - so that it is not just some slogan or some sentence taken out of context. The priest warned that "the guardian and judge of our hearts is Christ, who knows human intentions, knows the value of our hearts and He will judge these hearts sometime in the future.
The last sentences of this beautiful homily were the words of a poet: "I pray for you Poland, at night, cold, shivering with fear. Be a Father and a Mother to me. Be tender, just and caring. Be to me fragrant bread and salt. Be my only love, like the Eucharist first received." Later, dozens of Brzozow residents came to the local "Law and Justice" office for an open meeting with Speaker Kuchcinski and parliamentarians.

The main topic of the meeting was a summary of the current state of the explanation of the Smolensk catastrophe. Marek Kuchciński emphasized in his speech that "all information from the so-called government reports as well as facts gathered by the Parliamentary Group for Smolensk Disaster Explanation point to the fact that the causes of this tragedy should be searched for much earlier before the catastrophe. The facts prove that this flight for the anniversary celebrations in Katyń, this trip of the Polish President Lech Kaczyński and the accompanying numerous representatives of the state authorities, the Polish Army and social organizations was completely unprepared by the responsible governmental factors and special services. So we can speak here about political and moral responsibility of the present prime minister of the Polish government, maybe even more than that of the Russian authorities themselves. Knowing from history the several hundred years of Polish-Russian relations.
It is quite probable that the Russians used the Prime Minister of the Polish government and his closest environment to stir up a kind of internal war in Poland, to undermine the authority of President Lech Kaczynski, which has no precedent, and to weaken the authority and credibility of Poland in the European and international arena, and at the same time to weaken the activities of the most important institutions whose task is to take care of the security of the Polish state". - alleged Speaker Kuchciński.
In his opinion, in the opinion of many current generations of Poles, such undermining of the foundations of the functioning of the Polish state, visible since the elections in 2007, raises anxiety about our future. Donald Tusk's failure to keep his pre-election promises makes Poles worry about their jobs and securing their families' living conditions. On the other hand, the fatal neglect of the safety of the Polish government plane flight and the inexplicable concessions to Russia in the investigation after the crash, makes us worry about the safety of Poland.
In the following speeches, Senator Alicja Zając shared with the residents of Brzozów her experiences connected with the drama of the loss of her husband, Senator Stanisław Zając, who died in the Smolensk catastrophe. Senator Stanisław Piotrowicz, a long-time prosecutor, discussed the numerous and downright scandalous negligence of the government and its secret services, both in the preparation of the departure of the President of Poland, the top commanders of the Polish Armed Forces, and so many representatives of the Polish state elite for the anniversary celebrations in Katyn, and in the conduct of the investigation following the crash of the government plane.
