Marek Kuchciński emphasized that as the Speaker of the Sejm he participates in international meetings of multilateral and bilateral character, including the sessions of the Presidents of the European Union Parliaments. He also recalled the project for renewal of the Union, which was submitted by Poland at the meeting in Luxembourg, namely "Europe of solidarity. Security, borders, renewed institutions".
Being aware that Europe is much wider than the European Union, I took the initiative to organise a meeting of Speakers of Parliaments of Central and Eastern European countries that are not members of the European Union. The conference was held at the Sejm at the end of August last year and confirmed the rightness of this initiative. That is why this year, too, we are undertaking a number of regional initiatives related to our coexistence in Europe. It is about mental, cultural and political closeness - assured the Speaker.
The Sejm of the Republic of Poland, headed by Marshal Kuchciński, pursues an active foreign policy, and parliamentary diplomacy is becoming increasingly important. - The past year 2016 was the year of the 1050th anniversary of the Baptism of Poland - on this occasion the National Assembly was held in Poznań, and the whole year was full of numerous initiatives commemorating this important anniversary," said the Speaker of the Sejm. He also recalled the numerous official and informal bilateral meetings with Speakers of the Parliaments of almost all European countries, the participation of the Polish Sejm in the celebrations of the Polish-Hungarian Solidarity Year and the Polish-Hungarian Friendship Days, the signing of the agreement on strategic cooperation between the Polish and Hungarian Parliaments, the Carpathian Europe project with the participation of parliamentarians from Central and Eastern Europe, Numerous quadrilateral meetings of presidents of the parliaments of the Visegrad Group countries, meetings of presidiums of the Polish Sejm with presidiums of other parliaments, bilateral groups and parliamentary forums, cooperation within the framework of bilateral and multilateral parliamentary assemblies, visit to Belarus by a delegation of the Polish-Belarusian Parliamentary Group, activity within the framework of the parliamentary dimension of the Weimar Triangle.
