Letter from the Speaker of the Sejm on the occasion of the funeral of the remains of Marian Pilarski and Stanisław Bizior

Dear Sirs,

The solemn funeral of the mortal remains of Colonel Marian Pilarski a.k.a. Jar and Second Lieutenant Stanislaw Bizior a.k.a. Eam has a symbolic dimension. Today the awareness of the tragic fate of those who did not agree to the new postwar order is particularly strong.

The independence underground was built both by the soldiers who took part in the great victory of 1920 and those born in Independence - the generations raised in the spirit of patriotic values and respect for national liberation tradition. A part of it was the sacrifice, the fight to defend the Homeland and the honour undertaken even when the chances of winning were slim. For the measure was not the chance of victory, but the greatness of the cause for which the struggle was undertaken. The Unbroken Soldiers shared the fate of other insurgents, they were persecuted and experienced brutal repressions. Their dignity and reputation were tarnished, even after death. They remained steadfast through the years of the People's Republic of Poland, but they were not always alone in their resistance. The civilian population supported them, and they also found support in church circles.

Here in Radecznica, the Bernardine Fathers helped the anticommunist opposition, regardless of the severe consequences. The monastery walls became a shelter for the underground activities of the members of the Freedom and Independence organization in the Lublin and Zamość regions.

May this place of eternal rest The ceremony of commemorating the memory of Colonel Marian Pilarski and Lieutenant Stanislaw Bizior will be a testimony to the memory of the Undying Soldiers, as well as the commitment of Bernardine Fathers in the fight against the communist system.

I address words of thanks to those of you who restore the truth about our painful history and its participants. May the Providence grant eternal rest to the fallen Enclaved Soldiers.

Joining with you in a symbolic way, I bow my head in tribute to the unbroken heroes.
