Speaker Kuchciński: Expo 2022 in Łódź has the full support of the Polish Parliament

The Speaker of the Sejm Marek Kuchciński met with the Evaluation Mission of the International Bureau of Exhibitions (BIE). The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the organization of the world exhibition Expo 2022 in Łódź. 56e15c9975033_o (3)It is part of a series of initiatives undertaken by Polish authorities to launch large-scale revitalization projects across the country.

- Together with the government, we are determined for Poland to host the Expo," argued the Marshal. - Due to its transformation, tradition, multiculturalism and the achievements of our ancestors, Łódź is an ideal place to host Expo in 2022.

The Speaker also assured about the full support of the Parliament for the initiative and the necessity of the undertaking from the point of view of this part of Europe, where so far no Expo has been organized. - We are hungry for success, we want to draw from the knowledge of the whole world, but as the leader of the region - from the Adriatic to the Baltic - we share a lot in the experience of the country after the transformation - he argued.

Poland proposes a return to its roots and the tradition of World Exhibitions. Łódź has the opportunity to organize the exhibition in the very heart of the city, in the area of the New Centre of Łódź and the new Łódź Fabryczna railway station.

EXPO in Łódź will contribute to the development of revitalization projects all over the world. EXPO 2022 in Łódź will become an excellent platform for them to exchange ideas and experience, and they will be able to transfer the acquired knowledge to their own local ground.

The theme is City Re:Invented - urban regeneration. It is relevant for the whole world and fits into the trends of smart city, high quality of life in cities, including sustainable transport, green cities, leisure culture and resident-friendly cities.

The facilities created at the EXPO will be fully utilized after the exhibition. It is estimated that 86% of exhibition infrastructure will become a permanent part of the city, while the remaining 14% will be recycled and used elsewhere.

The decision to award the right to host EXPO 2022/2023 will be made by a vote of delegates to the BIE at the BIE General Assembly in November 2017. 168 countries are members of the BIE.

Exhibition date: June 15 to September 15, 2022.
