The Prime Minister has approved lists of local government investments in district and municipal roads that will receive funding from the Government Road Development Fund.
In addition to building a modern network of freeways and expressways, supporting local governments in the construction and modernization of local roads and combating traffic exclusion, road safety is a government priority,
As part of the call announced in March 2021, funding was granted for 1,714 tasks, including 910 on county roads and 804 on municipal roads. The total value of support for the approved applications is PLN 239.5 million, which will make it possible to upgrade nearly 2.6 thousand pedestrian crossings. Supplementary calls for proposals have already been announced in some voivodships. In Podkarpacie it will be 147 county crossings and 101 municipal crossings.
Thanks to government support, local governments can make investments:
- Enforcing speed limits in the vicinity of pedestrian crossings (e.g. installation of speed bumps or changing lane geometry),
- improving pedestrian visibility (e.g. by illuminating pedestrian crossings with a waiting zone),
- shortening the distance to be covered by pedestrians (e.g. by narrowing the carriageway at pedestrian crossings or using refuges).
The amount of funding from RFRD depends on the income of the local government unit - the lower the income of the local government, the higher the funding. Maximum co-financing can be up to 80 percent of the cost of the task, and the amount of funding for a single task can not exceed 200 thousand zł.
