A monument to the People of Freedom and Solidarity from the Bieszczady Mountains was unveiled in Wolosat

Those who fought for freedom, dignity and sovereignty were commemorated by a monument - symbolic winged oak gates, through which you can see the Bieszczady peak - Tarnica.

- The three steps of the Gate of Freedom, which lead upwards, represent Faith, Hope and Love, the open door represents Hospitality, and the wings symbolize Freedom," says Piotr Zbrożek, the author of the monument. The work, enclosed in a wooden form, refers to the landscape.

The initiative to commemorate the communist-era opposition activists from the Bieszczady was taken by the Speaker of the Eighth Sejm Marek Kuchcinski, supported by the IPN and the Lutowiska commune. The event was organized by the Bieszczady district with the starost Marek Andruch, the IPN with Dariusz Iwaneczko, the director of the Rzeszów branch, and the Bieszczady National Park with Ryszard Prędki, the director. Financial support has been provided by PGE. The date of the unveiling of the monument is special - this year marks the 40th anniversary of the signing of the Ustrzyki and Rzeszów Agreements and the creation of the Solidarity Trade Union.

The celebrations began with a mass for the intention of Freedom and Solidarity in the St. Anne's Church in Ustrzyki Górne.
