On Thursday, April 10, the 6th anniversary of the Smolensk catastrophe was celebrated in Warsaw. At 8.00 a mass was celebrated in the Seminary Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary and St. Joseph the Spouse in Warsaw. It was attended by the President of the Law and Justice party Jaroslaw Kaczynski, Chairman of the Law and Justice Parliamentary Club Mariusz Blaszczak, Chairman of the Law and Justice Executive Committee Joachim Brudzinski and Deputy Speaker of the Sejm Marek Kuchcinski.
After the mass the Law and Justice politicians together with the crowds gathered at Krakowskie Przedmieście paid tribute to all the victims of the catastrophe. At 8:41 am, the hour of the tragedy, the roll call of the dead was held in front of the Presidential Palace.
Those gathered in front of the Presidential Palace placed a wooden cross and candles.
Then the Law and Justice parliamentarians visited the graves of the victims of the tragedy. They laid flowers and prayed at the resting places of the late Pawel Wypych and Katarzyna Doraczynska at the Brodno Cemetery. Then they paid homage to the tragically deceased on April 10, who rest in the Divine Providence Temple.
From there, Law and Justice representatives went to the Warsaw Military Powazki. They said a prayer in front of the monument to the victims of the disaster and laid wreaths on the tombstones nearby.
The President of the Law and Justice party along with members of parliament prayed at the symbolic grave of the late presidential couple - President Lech Kaczynski and Maria Kaczynska.
Representatives of the party also paid tribute to late Tomasz Mert at the St. Sophia Barat parish cemetery in Warsaw.
Mass for the intention of the victims of the disaster began at 7 p.m. at the Archcathedral Basilica of the Martyrdom of St. John the Baptist in Warsaw. The Eucharist was presided over and a homily was delivered by Bishop Antoni Dydycz.
After the mass thousands of people took part in the March of Remembrance. Among the dozens of banners, in addition to those of the Law and Justice party, one could also see banners of the Polish Newspaper Clubs, whose members came from all over Poland.
