Today, Speaker of the Sejm Marek Kuchciński discussed cooperation, tasks and future relations between Poland and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) with the organization's Secretary General Ángel Gurría. This year marks the 20th anniversary of our country's accession to the OECD.
The Speaker of the Sejm pointed out the numerous challenges facing European and world civilization and the region of which Poland is a part. He stressed that economic development is the basis for the functioning of every country. Ángel Gurría pointed out to the very good two decades of Poland's cooperation with the OECD. He presented analyses and diagnoses concerning our country. As the Speaker of the Sejm noted, these are the goals facing not only Poland, but also other countries. Marek Kuchciński emphasized the importance of sustainable development enshrined in the Polish Constitution, and at the same time actions aimed at increasing economic growth.
The meeting was also devoted to the prospects for cooperation within the OECD Global Parliamentary Network. As Ángel Gurría said, parliaments have more and more to say and the OECD is committed to dialogue with them. The Speaker of the Sejm and the Secretary General of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development also discussed the possibility of organizing a meeting in Poland with the participation of OECD parliamentarians. According to Marek Kuchciński, it is important that representatives of parliaments from all over Central and Eastern Europe take part in it. The Speaker of the Sejm emphasized that actions aimed at sustainable development of the region would help, among others, limit uncontrolled migration.
The OECD is an international and intergovernmental economic organization established by the Paris Convention, signed on December 14, 1960. The work of the OECD is directed primarily at its member countries, although it also serves non-member countries, among others.
November 22 marked the 20th anniversary of Poland joining the OECD.
