Meeting with the Speaker of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania

For the first time in the 21st century, the Speaker of the Parliament of another country spoke in the Polish Sejm. Viktoras Pranckietis, Speaker of the Seimas of Lithuania, touched upon the common history of our countries in the context of the 100th anniversary of independence. Remembering it, respecting it, we look into the future.

- The Baltic states should integrate. We are becoming more active in the area of security (strengthening NATO's eastern flank), including energy security (e.g., a common position against the construction of Nord Stream 2). We bet on the development of infrastructure, communication and cultural cooperation. We are looking for a recipe to strengthen the EU, we are also guided by the principle "nothing about us without us".- said the Speaker of the Seimas Marek Kuchciński. - We are rebuilding cooperation within the framework of the Parliamentary Assembly of Poland and Lithuania, within which we will establish a group of parliamentarians who will deal with the issues of Poles in Lithuania and Lithuanians in Poland on an ongoing basis," said Marek Kuchciński.

During his speech in the Seimas, Viktoras Pranckietis recalled the common events that united our countries, such as the Union of Lublin, the Union of Kreva, the Four-Year Sejm, the Constitution of May 3, as well as the bloody ones, such as Grunwald, Katyń, the slaughter of Prague, deportation to Siberia... Remembering the past, Poland and Lithuania should build a common future. They should strengthen the EU and NATO, develop economy and infrastructure, take care of energy security, and in the face of the events in Crimea and Donbass, join their efforts for security.
