Marshal of the Sejm Marek Kuchciński, Speaker of the Senate Stanisław Karczewski
and the President of the Hungarian National Assembly, László Kövér signed a strategic partnership agreement.
The document provides for, among other things, regular meetings of the presidents and their deputies, joint activities in international parliamentary organizations, regular contacts between friendship groups and mutual visits and consultations of parliamentary committees.
- Mr. President championed the declaration of 2016 as the Year of Polish-Hungarian Solidarity, in which we referred to the values that unite us, creating concrete, forward-looking projects. The latest of these is the initiative that has been confirmed with our signatures," said Marek Kuchciński.
Today's meeting between the Speaker of the Sejm and the President of the Assembly was the 11th and the first official one. Kövér argued that the signed document only confirms the special relations, which have linked Poland and Hungary for thousand years, it expresses the strong will of our nations to continue this cooperation. - Poles and Hungarians would not be who they are now without mutual support - the President stressed.
As a supporter of Polish-Hungarian initiatives, László Kövér received from the Speaker of the Sejm the Commander's Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland, awarded by the President of the Republic of Poland, among others, for his outstanding contribution to international cooperation and to linking Poland with other countries.
- For this deep identification with the great work of Polish-Hungarian friendship and brotherhood, for the consequences and continuity of activities in this field, the Republic of Poland expresses its gratitude. I am honoured that on behalf of the President of the Republic of Poland, Mr. Andrzej Duda, I can decorate President László Kövér, a great Friend of Poland, with the Commander's Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland," Kuchciński said.
