The Wolomin celebrations, under the honorary patronage of Vice-Marshal of the Polish Parliament Marek Kuchcinski, were inaugurated on January 20 with a solemn Mass in St. Joseph the Worker Church.
Following the service, flowers were laid at the boulder dedicated to the Heroes of 1863 at the intersection of Pilsudski and Gdynia Streets.
The ceremony was attended by the Deputy Speaker of the Polish Parliament Marek Kuchciński, MP Jacek Sasin, the Mayor of Wolomin Ryszard Madziar and the Starost Piotr Uściński.
In their speeches, everyone stressed the importance of this great national uprising for the history of Poland. Representatives of educational institutions, institutions, veterans' associations and residents of Wolomin also paid tribute to the insurgents. The solemn setting of the ceremony was ensured by flag posts and representatives of the Wołomin branch of the Strzelec" Shooting Association.
