Referring to today's ruling of the Constitutional Tribunal, I would like to state that it is, above all, of historical value, as it refers to a legal situation which, however, has changed fundamentally in recent days.
Yesterday's decisions taken by the Sejm are based on the principle of the Sejm's autonomy of its rules of procedure, which is one of the fundamental system principles of the Republic of Poland.
Today's verdict of the Constitutional Tribunal confirms that the law on the Constitutional Tribunal adopted by the Sejm in its previous term was burdened with constitutional defects.
Recent events indicate that the time has come for deep reflection on the model of functioning of the Constitutional Tribunal. Necessary changes should be directed towards the creation of mechanisms guaranteeing the activities of the Constitutional Tribunal independent of political influence.
I appeal to all political forces to cooperate and support initiatives that implement the above assumptions.
