Record numbers of companies declaring bankruptcy in 2013.

In April alone, 88 companies employing 4,200 people went bankrupt. Since the beginning of the year, as many as 328 companies have already declared bankruptcy. (Euler Hermes data).

The number of bankruptcies filed in April rose 10.7 percent m/mto 83, a 29.7 percent year-over-year increase, according to data from Business Courts. The Credit Union maintains its forecast that throughout the year the number of bankruptcies will amount to 1313 (increase by 49.7% y/y), (data from the Export Credit Insurance Corporation).

Increase in number of officials under Donald Tusk's government

Since 2011, as many as 7,000 officials have been added. In total, the following people work in public administration across the country already 443.1 thousand officials (counting without those in social security and national defense) (GUS data). According to the information gathered by Rzeczpospolita, in 2011 and 2012 the number of employees in several ministries and tax administration offices decreased, but apparently not for long. The increase in the number of officials was mainly caused by local governments, including municipalities and towns. There, the number of workers increased by almost 4 percent. (about 6.3 thousand people), (14.05.2013 niezalezna.pl after PAP/ RZ ).

Examples of Collective Redundancies

LOT - 230 administrative employees get layoff notices and 100 pilots and 200 cabin crew are scheduled to be laid off. LOT's mass layoffs begin. LOT's employees who are to leave the company as part of their collective redundancies are handed in their employment contracts. For now, the layoffs concern only administrative workers, but also 100 pilots and 200 on-board personnel are to lose their jobs. Such numbers are given in the restructuring plan sent to the Ministry of Treasury (TVN24.pl 25.03.2013).

Łapy Sugar Factory - 250 persons dismissed in 2008 In the 25,000-strong Łapy region, the sugar factory was closed down (Gazetapraca.pl 14.09.2009).

Zakłady Naprawy Taboru Kolejowego - 750 people dismissed in 2009. as a result of the collapse of the Plant (Gazetapraca.pl 14.09.2009).

Regional Transport in Katowice - 1800 people made redundant after liquidation of Regional Transport in Katowice (RMF 2.01.2013).

Fiat factory in Tychy - 1450 people made redundant by March 2013. (Wyborcza.biz 14.05.2013).

Municipal Transport Company in Olsztyn - Announcement of redundancies due to restructuring of the company (olsztyn.wm.pl 8.01.2013).

Pharmaceutical plant Jelfa from Jelenia Góra - in January terminates the contract to all employees with working conditions (jelonka.com.pl 3.01.2013).

Zakłady Chemiczne Zachem in Bydgoszcz - the company has announced layoffs of around 600 employees. In practice, this means the end of production activities of what was once the largest employer in Bydgoszcz (nettg.pl 28.12.2012).

Małapanew Steelworks in Ozimek - 129 people to be laid off by the end of the year. Nearly 500 employees have been laid off since 2009. Currently 650 of them are working at the site (Radio Opole 24.04.2013).

Tabor Szynowy Opole - 150 people dismissed in November at the Zielona Góra plant. However, until today it has not paid the severance pay. - The company's management has left us without any means of subsistence - complain the employees and are preparing a lawsuit against the employer. - For the time being we have no money - replies the president of the company (zielonagora.gazeta.pl 8.01.2013).

CMC Zawiercie Steelworks - 230 to be made redundant group. The company's Management Board published regulations on employment reduction - reported the trade unions. The unions initiated a collective dispute with the employer (26.04.2013 Nasz Dziennik).

Bulmer & Lumb - about 200 people are expected to be laid off. British company Bulmer&Lumb is closing its operations in the former Merinotex in Toruń is laying off the entire staff. About. 200 employees of the Toruń spinning mill will lose their jobs without the right to severance pay (Gazeta.pl 20.05.2013).

Polimex Mostostal - plan to lay off 1.2 thousand people. The company has announced another round of group layoffs, as a result of which the employment will decrease by another 1.2 thousand people by the end of September 2013. (Parkiet 10.05.2013).

Delfo Polska SA - 310 employees.  One of the most important suppliers of the Fiat Auto Poland factory in Tychy plans employment reductions, which are to be completed by the end of May 2013. (motoryzacja.wnp.pl 23.12.2012).

Sumika wants to lay off 156 people in Ostaszewo. Orion Electric Poland announced that he wants to to lay off 177 employees collectively. Sharp is also laying off (Subzone of the Pomeranian Economic Zone near Toruń), (torun.gazeta.pl 21.12.2012).

Philips in Piła plans to lay off 300 employees. By the end of April 2013 over 10% of employees in Philips light bulb factory will have lost their jobs. Out of 3056 employees, 316 will be laid off (tvn24.pl 21.12.2012).

ISD Huta Częstochowa wants to lay off at least 1000 people, and maybe even 1500 (Western Journal 29.04.2013).
