Scientists, politicians, and theologians will weigh in on the problem of environmental exploitation

On October 15, on the occasion of the 1050th anniversary of the Baptism of Poland, a conference will be held at the Sejm on "Sustainable Development in the Light of the Encyclical Laudato Si'.

Pope Francis, the author of the encyclical, sees a connection between environmental and social approaches. He writes that people should unite in the pursuit of integrated development and incorporate justice into discussions about the environment to "hear both the cry of the earth and the cry of the poor."

The Ministry of Environment organized the conference, "considering the threats to the environment, health and welfare of people."

It is worth mentioning, by the way, that at the last session the Sejm also adopted a law on ratification of the Paris Agreement to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. The aim of the agreement is to keep the increase in global average temperatures to less than 2 degrees Celsius. It has been ratified by 61 countries, responsible for 47.5 percent of global emissions. All that is needed for the agreement to take effect is for Germany and France to ratify it.

Poland is betting on the concept of "forest carbon farms". According to Minister of Environment Jan Szyszko, appropriate forest management, stand reconstruction, ecological engineering activities, protection of biodiversity will make the forests give better water and air, and annually can absorb more than 20 million tons. During the conference in Paris, the proposal was adopted by all countries of the world.
