- Celebrating Hanukkah together in the Sejm has already become a custom. It is as beautiful and bright as this holiday illuminated by the glow of Hanukkah candles," said Marshal Marek Kuchciński during the ceremony of lighting the Hanukkah lamp at the Sejm. - I believe that the meetings in the Sejm and the Senate, which have been taking place for years at a time important for Polish and Jewish culture, testify to the historical and close ties between the Polish and Jewish communities living in the Republic of Poland," he said.
Hanukkah lasts eight days and is connected with the ritual of lighting the lights. One Hanukkah candle is lit each day. Jews celebrate in honor of the events that followed the desecration of the Temple in Jerusalem - one jug of oil burned for all eight days of the temple rededication ceremony.
The ceremony was also attended by the Deputy Speaker of the Sejm Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska, Israeli Rabbi Shalom Dov Ber Stambler - President of the Chabad-Lubavich Jewish Center in Poland, Prof. Szewach Weiss, Senior Marshall Kornel Morawiecki, Deputy Head of the Chancellery of the Sejm Adam Podgórski, MPs, senators and representatives of the diplomatic corps.
- Today, this light goes out into the world from the heart of Poland, from the Polish Sejm, as a symbol of unity beyond differences and with best wishes for both our nations," said Rabbi Stambler.
