The project is not only to designate the route, but also to increase the safety of tourists. It involves improving the surface of existing road sections, removing dangerous elements for cyclists, such as inflated curbs, transverse and longitudinal faults. The assumption of the project is to lead the bicycle traffic off the roads with the highest traffic intensity and - where it is not possible - to provide preference for bicycle paths separated from the road lane.

Bicycle Service Areas will be designed and located at in places attractive to tourists.

Eastern Green Velo Bicycle Route with a length of 1987.5 km runs through the area of five voivodeships and is the longest bicycle route in Poland. The Green Velo Route was developed with the support of the ERDF.
