The motto of this year's relay is "In you there is light". Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts are the keepers of the Light. It is a symbol of hope and peace between nations.

Idea:

The story begins in Bethlehem, a city located in the Palestinian Authority that has been at the center of political tensions, armed conflict and terrorist attacks over the years. It is there, over two thousand years ago, that Jesus Christ was born.

An eternal fire burns in the Grotto of the Nativity in Bethlehem. Every year one candle is lit from it, and its flame is carried by scouts in a great relay across countries and continents around the world.

The very moment of setting off the Light in Bethlehem is unique. For this idea people can stop for a moment, stop their anger and rage. During 29 years of the history of the Bethlehem Peace Light, in changing political conditions, it never happened that the Light did not set off from Bethlehem. This makes the Light a sign of peace, a testimony of mutual understanding and a symbol of reconciliation between nations.

This is the gift that scouts from all over Europe, including Polish Scouts, want to share with everyone. By carrying lanterns with the Light to parishes, schools, hospitals, offices and homes they share the joyful news and promote the greatest universal values of brotherhood and peace (swiatlo.zhp.pl).
