Marek Kuchciński, Speaker of the Sejm, took part in ceremonies commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising.
The anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising is a time to remember those tragic events and the people who took part in them. When on April 19, 1943 the German troops entered the Ghetto in order to carry out the final act of extermination of this nation, young people from the Jewish Combat Organization took up arms in defense of their dignity and honor. Faced with the crushing superiority of the Germans, with their fierce three-week fight they gave proof of great determination and heroism. They knew they would not survive, but they valued their dignity and, more broadly, human dignity above all else. In those gloomy, dark times, when evil seemed to triumph, they proved that it is not all-powerful.
We cannot remain indifferent to the memory of those who were ready to sacrifice their lives in the name of defending superior values. That is why it is so important that today the City of Warsaw honors the heroes of its painful history. May today's solemn session be an expression of everlasting memory of those worthy of remembrance, but also a signpost for the present and future generations to always treat human rights as the highest value," wrote Marek Kuchciński in a letter addressed to the participants the ceremonial session of the Warsaw City Council, held on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising.
