Poles and Hungarians were connected by a great bridge of solidarity and help. Poles treated the heroic fight of Hungarians as their own', the Speaker of the Seym Marek Kuchciński said in Budapest at the beginning of his term. If we look closely at the common history of our countries, we will see how true these words are. Two seemingly different nations have been intertwined for centuries with an inseparable and unusual bond that makes one not hesitate to sacrifice everything for the other.
On 12 March 2007, the Hungarian Parliament adopted a declaration recognising 23 March as Polish-Hungarian Friendship Day. It was supported by 324 MPs, no one abstained and no one was against. A similar resolution was adopted by the Polish Sejm by acclamation on 16 March 2007.
Below is a recap of the events involving the Speaker of the Polish Sejm and the Speaker of the Hungarian Parliament:

Summary of the Polish Presidency of the Visegrad Group - Marek Kuchciński
June 2016: Exhibition "1956: Poland-Hungary. History and Memory". The Speaker of the Sejm Marek Kuchciński reminded that in 1956 our compatriots stood up to fight for a normal life, which was taken away from us after World War II (...) usually described by values such as independence, dignity, freedom, security, memory and history. - The year 1956 became a symbol of such values. Today we recall this symbol knowing that without history there is no future, without memory there is no present," stressed Marek Kuchciński. As the Speaker of the Sejm added: "1956 has also become another pillar of our common Polish-Hungarian unity. - 1956 connected us with a great bridge of solidarity and help. It was then that Polish-Hungarian solidarity was born again in this new dimension, in the new post-war reality", emphasised Marek Kuchciński.
