10th Anniversary of the Smolensk Catastrophe

Marek Kuchciński, Speaker of the Sejm of the 8th term, laid flowers under the plaque commemorating President Lech Kaczyński, Speaker of the Sejm Maciej Płażyński and the fallen parliamentarians. - Ten years ago, we lost a President who understood the interest of Poland and the needs of the people best after regaining independence. He was able to bow to the injustice of every man and at the same time to implement the vision of development of the Great Poland, respected in Europe and in the world. He brought out from oblivion despised soldiers who died for independence. Those who died together with Lech Kaczyński died for the country," Marek Kuchciński wrote on Facebook.

Among the 97 victims who flew to Katyn to commemorate Polish officers murdered by the NKVD were 14 MPs: Aleksandra Natalli-Świat (PiS), Grażyna Gęsicka (PiS), Przemysław Gosiewski (PiS), Deputy Speaker of the Sejm Krzysztof Putra (PiS), Maciej Płażyński (Dissent.), Leszek Deptuła (PSL), Grzegorz Dolniak (PO), Arkadiusz Rybicki (PO), Jerzy Szmajdziński (SLD), Jolanta Szymanek-Deresz (SLD), Zbigniew Wassermann (PiS), Izabela Jaruga-Nowacka (SLD), Wiesław Woda (PSL), Sebastian Karpiniuk (PO), Edward Wojtas (PSL). The senators who tragically died were: Deputy Senate Marshal Krystyna Bochenek (PO), Janina Fetlińska and Stanisław Zając from PiS.

In 2016, the daughter of the Presidential Couple stressed that for years after the Smolensk catastrophe, we had to deal with a forced oblivion of a man, a politician, a great patriot who testified with his life that he deserved to be remembered.

My father was a Solidarity activist, minister of state in Lech Walesa's office, president of NIK, MP, senator, minister of justice, later president of Warsaw, and finally president of Poland. This fully justifies his commemoration, especially here in Warsaw, the city he loved. On the building where he worked hard for less than 5 years, on the Royal Route, which was revitalized on his initiative', said Marta Kaczyńska.
