Sejm Speaker Marek Kuchcinski met Friday with Council of Europe Secretary General Thorbjoern Jagland, who was visiting Warsaw. In the conversation, the politicians discussed, among other things, the challenges facing Europe, particularly related to Brexit and migration issues. The interlocutors agreed that it is crucial to reach compromise solutions on these issues. During the meeting, the Speaker of the Sejm and the Secretary General raised current issues concerning the functioning of the Council of Europe.

The politicians agreed that diplomacy, including that carried out by national parliaments, has an important role to play in dealing with such issues. In the current term of the Sejm, this aspect of the Polish parliament's activity is crucial.

The meeting was also attended, among others, by MP Włodzimierz Bernacki - head of the Polish delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.

The Council of Europe is an international organization, primarily engaged in activities to protect human rights. It was established in 1949. - this year therefore marks the 70th anniversary of its establishment.
