Biography

Marek Kuchciński was born on the 9th of August in Przemyśl. In 1974-1978 he studied art history at the Catholic University of Lublin. In 1978 he graduated from the Postgraduate College of Horticulture. In the 1980s, he organized an independent culture community in Przemyśl, published and co-edited the quarterly "Strych Kulturalny" outside of the censorship. He was a member of the independent peasant movement and, among others, a member of the National Committee of Farmers' Resistance, an author of articles for the OKOR underground magazine Solidarność Rolników (Farmers' Solidarity). Since 1982 an activist of the Farmers Ministry in Krasiczyn (the first in Poland), organizer (with Stanisław Bartmiński) of food-aid for workers in Silesia. During the 1983-1989, also outside of censorship, he co-organized the Days of Christian Culture in Przemyśl and international art exhibitions "Man - God - World". (Man - God - World). In 1985, he was arrested for opposition's activity. Held prisoner in Jarosław and Przemyśl. In 1989, he was a co-founder and spokesperson of the Solidarity Citizens' Committee in the Przemyśl voivodeship. In the 1990-1992 he was a member of the Solidarity National Citizens' Committee with Lech Wałęsa. He was the founder and president of the Center Agreement (1990-1999) in the Przemyśl voivodeship. In the 1990-2000 he was the President of the Przemyśl Cultural Society, publisher of, among others, the quarterly "Spojrzenia Przemyskie" (Przemyśl Views). Vice President of the Association of Polish Journalists in Rzeszów. He chaired the programme council of the Polish Radio Rzeszów and was a correspondent of the Polish Radio Lviv. In the years 1994-1999 he was a town councillor in Przemyśl. From 1999 to 2001 he was the deputy voivode of Podkarpackie voivodeship. Since 2001, he has continuously held the mandate of the Sejm deputy for the next term of office from the party Law and Justice. On 4th of August 2010, he became the deputy speaker of the Sejm of the 6th term, and on 8th of November 2011 - elected deputy speaker of the Sejm of the 7th term. He chaired the parliamentary committees of Administration and Internal Affairs and the Committee on the Environmental Protection, Natural Resources and Forestry. He was the vice-chairman of the Parliamentary Delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Republic of Poland and Ukraine and a member of the Polish-Hungarian Parliamentary Group. Since 2010, he has been the initiator of a series of meetings of the Carpathian countries under the slogan "Europe of the Carpathians", whose goal is, among others strengthening cooperation in all areas of public activity and building an international network of deputies working for the sustainable development of the Carpathian region. From the 12th of November 2015 to 9th of August, 2019, he was the Speaker of the Sejm of the 8th term. Deputy to the Sejm of the 9th term. Currently, the Vice-Chairman of the Communications Committee with Poles Abroad and a member of the Environmental Protection Committee, Chairman of the Carpathian Parliamentary Team and Mountain Rescue Team. A representative of the Sejm and Senate delegation to the Parliamentary Dimension of the Central European Initiative. From the 12th of February 2020, chairman of the Polish-Hungarian Parliamentary Group, an active participant in the Polish-Slovak, Polish-Romanian and Polish-Czech groups. He was awarded, among others the Polish Radio and Television award in Rzeszów and the Przemyśl voivode award for achievements in the field of culture. He received the "Nowiny" Laurel in the Politician of the Year 2003 category. He is married and has three children.

Cross of Freedom and Solidarity (2016) - for his involvement in opposition's activity against
the communist dictatorship of the PRL (Polish People's Republic).
Grand Cross of the Hungarian Order of Merit (2018) - in recognition of outstanding merits in
building Hungarian-Polish political and social relations.
Order for Merits to Lithuania (2019) - for contribution to the development of relations
between Lithuania and Poland, improvement of political, cultural, economic and social
cooperation between both countries.
