Mr.
Jan Józef Kasprzyk
The Head of the Office for Veterans Affairs
The President of the Council of the European Union and the Committee of Repressed Persons
Dear Minister,
Volhynia - for years passed over in silence, today has risen to the rank of a symbol of genocide and unsolved crimes, unspeakable suffering of the inhabitants of the Borderlands of the Second Polish Republic and the heroism of the Home Army soldiers fighting in the former Polish territories. It is a testimony to the enormous pain and suffering caused by hatred fueled by nationalistic and totalitarian ideology. From the accounts of the miraculously saved victims emerge images of unimaginable cruelty, contempt for another human being, and lack of respect for Christian values. A question arises about the essence of humanity and human sensitivity of both torturers and those,
who for decades ordered silence in an attempt to conceal the facts, to minimize the enormity of the crimes committed. It is impossible to conceal the death of more than a hundred thousand Polish citizens, to stand indifferently in the face of crimes committed by the units of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists and
Ukrainian Insurgent Army. The truth should be present in the public consciousness of our contemporaries and future generations, because it is not revenge, but remembrance that is important. As a warning, so that the time of hatred and war is never repeated. I want to thank all those who fight to honor the victims and restore the truth about the crime. On this special day - the National Day of Remembrance for the Victims of Genocide Committed by Ukrainian Nationalists against the Citizens of the Second World War - I would like to thank all those who are fighting to honor the victims and restore the truth about the crime.
Republic of Poland - I bow my head in honor of the victims of genocide.
Honor their memory!
Marek Kuchciński
