Today is the 11th anniversary of Lech Kaczyński's memorable speech at the rally in Tbilisi

Today marks the 11th anniversary of Lech Kaczynski's memorable speech at a rally in Tbilisi. On the fifth and decisive day of the Russian-Georgian war, when Russian troops seized the towns of Karaleti and Gori and were advancing toward Tbilisi, Lech Kaczynski personally arrived in Georgia, taking with him the leaders of Ukraine, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. Speaking in front of the parliament building to the gathered 200,000 Georgians, he stressed that it is the duty of the international community to stand in solidarity against Russian imperial aspirations. "I would like to say this not only to you, I would like to say it also to those of our common European Union, that Central Europe, Georgia, that our entire region will count, that we are a subject, "he noted. - "And we also know very well that today Georgia, tomorrow Ukraine, the day after tomorrow the Baltic States, and later maybe it's time for my country - for Poland." Lech Kaczynski was one of the greatest statesmen in the history of Poland and excelled at anticipating possible scenarios for the development of international events. At the same time he was able to effectively and courageously counteract them. According to Georgian politicians and commentators, Lech Kaczynski's visit was an important element in stopping Russian aggression. Georgians have never forgotten what Lech Kaczynski did for them. As a sign of gratitude, wanting to preserve the memory of him and his contribution to Georgia's independence, they named streets and squares after him, and erected a bust of the Polish President in Tbilisi.
