The funeral of the late Zbigniew Romaszewski had a national character. The funeral ceremony was attended by Law and Justice politicians, including Deputy Marshal of the Polish Sejm Marek Kuchciński. Zbigniew Romaszewski was also farewelled by friends and colleagues, as well as those to whom he brought help and encouragement during the difficult times of communism and martial law.
The funeral mass began at 1 pm at Warsaw's St. John's Archcathedral. The coffin with the body of Zbigniew Romaszewski was covered with a white and red flag. A guard of honor around the coffin was provided by the marshal's guard. The funeral Mass at the Warsaw archcathedral was presided over by Bishop Rafal Markowski; the sermon was delivered by Monsignor Jan Sikorski.
"We say goodbye to you Zbyszek with pain, we say goodbye to you as a great Pole, a great man, and we say goodbye to you as a colleague, a friend, as a man who inscribed himself in our lives. You have served Poland well, you have served us all well." - Law and Justice Chairman Jaroslaw Kaczynski said at the cathedral. He described Zbigniew Romaszewski as a modern knight - a knight of a good cause, defense of human rights, defense of ordinary people.
The funeral ceremonies then moved to the Powązki Military Cemetery.
