- The inclusion of the Via Carpatia route in the draft regulation on the CEF (Connecting Europe Facility) program is very good news for Poland. The Polish government still has a lot of work, negotiations and efforts ahead of it, but already today we can see that our efforts to create a route that will connect northern and southern Europe and at the same time activate its eastern part have been noticed. I would like to thank our partners from the European Commission, but also all parliamentarians and MEPs who are involved in this project. In particular, I would like to thank Speaker of the Sejm Marek Kuchciński and MEP Tomasz Poręba - said Infrastructure Minister Andrzej Adamczyk.
6 June 2018. The European Commission has published a draft of the new CEF regulation, in which the Via Carpatia corridor is included in Annex I, which defines, among other things, the route of selected sections on the TEN-T supplementary network.
- The inclusion of the Via Carpatia route corridor in the draft regulation on CEF is another proof that the cooperation with our European partners is successful. Wherever substantial arguments are presented in the right way, an agreement is possible. An example is the vote in the European Parliament's Committee on Transport and Tourism, which decided to exclude international transport from the Posting of Workers Directive. There are still areas where we are looking for an agreement, but we can already see a green light to take into account the reasoning of not only Polish entrepreneurs, but also of carriers from many other European countries - emphasized minister Adamczyk.
Via Carpatia is an infrastructural priority for Poland. Financial resources have already been secured for the realization of the entire route of this route. On the territory of Poland Via Carpatia runs along the route: S61 on the section State border - Augustów - Ełk, S16 on the section Ełk - Knyszyn and S19 Knyszyn - Dobrzyniewo Duże - Choroszcz - Siemiatycze - S12 (Lublin Rudnik), S12 (Lublin Sławinek) - Nisko - A4 (Rzeszów Wschód), A4 (Rzeszów Zachód) - Barwinek - State border. The length of the Polish part of the route is 1533 km in total (including branches towards the Baltic ports and the border with Ukraine, i.e. the S12 and S17 roads).
- The idea of building Via Carpatia route was initiated in 2006 by President Lech Kaczyñski. Today it takes shape and is translated into specific intergovernmental and EU documents, thanks to the determination of people for whom it is a strategic undertaking leading to the economic development of our country - added the Minister of Infrastructure.
Via Carpatia is a key trans-European transport corridor which may become a new link between the North and South of Europe, integrating the transport systems of Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia, Ukraine, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Greece and Turkey. The advantages resulting from the implementation of this investment will include, inter alia, the inclusion of less developed regions into the main stream of international exchange and use of their development potential. In addition, Via Carpatia will create the possibility of opening to other countries within the EU and outside the EU, such as Balkan countries (e.g. Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia). The realization of the route will create further opportunities for the location of transport terminals and logistics centers in Poland. Thanks to the inclusion of the route leading from Lublin through Warsaw to the Tri-City in the Via Carpatia route, conditions will be created for the development of ports in Gdansk and Gdynia.
