The 26th anniversary of establishing the Border Guard took place at the Market Square in Przemyśl. The Speaker of the Sejm, who was awarded a commemorative badge of the Bieszczady Division of the Border Guard, thanked the border guards for their service. Marek Kuchciński also reminded the 100-year old beginnings of the Guard - at the beginning of the formation of the Second Republic of Poland and in the difficult times of its reconstruction.
On the eastern border the Border Protection Corps was formed - said the Marshal - on the southern, western and northern border the Border Guard was formed. Even today, hiking along the south-eastern border through Opołonek, near Dobosz Rock, we can see granite border posts that were erected on the then Polish-Czechoslovak border in the 1920s. Also at Dobosz Rock, where Józef Piłsudski visited the Border Guard in the early 1930s.
Today we are celebrating the Border Guard holiday in the market square of Przemyśl, to which the headquarters of the Małopolski Regional Inspectorate of the Border Guard was moved in 1930 to 23 Rynek Street. It is worth remembering that at that time, on the initiative of the guards from Przemyśl, a dormitory for children of officers and privates of the Border Guard was established in Przemyśl at 7 Barska Street.
Service to the Fatherland is an honor, but also the sacrifice of sometimes health or life in defense of the values and principles that are most important to every Pole.
Therefore, on behalf of the Republic of Poland and the Parliament of the Republic of Poland I would like to express my appreciation and gratitude for your service. Free, Safe and Independent Poland is the most important goal for all of us.
