Carpathian Strategy getting closer

During the Economic Forum in Krynica the representatives of the governments of Poland, Ukraine, Hungary and Slovakia signed the Carpathian Declaration - an agreement under which the European Council can start working on the Carpathian Strategy.

- If we have a well-functioning Alpine or Baltic Strategy in our development policy, a strategy of groups of countries with macro-regional interests that complement each other and create more and more value, then why not create a Carpathian Strategy - said Marek Kuchciński, Speaker of the Sejm, during the conference Europe of the Carpathians.

According to the Ministry of Investment and Development, the EU strategy would translate into a leap in development of the region. In the future, the work on the strategy may also involve the Czech Republic, Romania, Austria, Serbia and Moldova. It would be the fifth strategy in the EU. At present, there are Alpine, Adriatic-Ionian, Baltic and Danube Strategies.

The Carpathian macro-regional initiative is also supported by the Carpathian Parliamentary Group chaired by the Speaker of the Sejm. Its members emphasize the extremely important role of the region - not only because of the natural and cultural wealth, but also as an area of many political interests. It requires investments in transport, infrastructure, ecology, as well as support for local entrepreneurship.
