Marek Kuchcinski, Speaker of the Polish Sejm, met with U.S. Ambassador Paul Jones at the Sejm. The Ambassador spoke of the importance of U.S. relations with Poland as a regional leader and in view of the upcoming NATO summit. Assuring his readiness to cooperate, he said, among other things: - Our states have promised each other to be open and supportive.
The Ambassador's interest was in the work of the Sejm from the perspective of its head.
- I am the most liberal Speaker to be elected in the 21st century - Marek Kuchciński said. - I am often accused of allowing my fellow Members too much. And I have a dilemma: should I cut off the floor when, for the hundredth time, a formal motion is put forward which in fact is not, or should I listen to the Member as a representative of the people...
The Speaker added that the Sejm is in the organizational phase, with most of the MPs' projects. - We aim for 70 percent of projects to be government projects (large, professional facilities) - he said. He also informed about the state of affairs and legal regulations adopted by the Sejm concerning the Constitutional Tribunal.
