Solina is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Poland, and the cable car will probably be the first in the world to run along the dam. Every year Solina Lake is visited by approximately 1.5 million tourists. In order to unleash and fully expose the potential and values of the place, the idea of a pro-tourist investment appeared, one that would make the tourist offer of the whole Bieszczady region more attractive - the construction of a gondola railroad and a viewing tower over the dam in Solina.
The planned route of the scenic gondola railroad starts from the starting station Plasz, located above the boardwalk leading to the crown of the dam in Solina, and the final station and the 56 m high observation tower are to be located on the Jawor mountain. The length of the railroad route is 1.64 km. The highest support of the railroad is to be 99 m high. The railroad will be able to carry about 1200 passengers per hour.
The implementation of such a large project takes time. The Solina municipality started talks with the company Polskie Koleje Linowe SA already in 2016. In 2017, a tourist traffic survey was conducted to be able to determine the economic and business aspect of the investment: from May to August, a cable car gondola stood at the entrance to the crown of the dam in Solina, where tourists had the opportunity to fill out a short survey on the attractiveness of such a project. The interest exceeded all expectations, and the results of the survey were very satisfactory and clearly indicated that such an attraction is expected and needed. In 2017, the Solina municipality began the procedure of the Local Spatial Development Plan, which includes in its provisions the possibility of building a railroad along with all the necessary infrastructure. Currently, the procedure for obtaining a building permit for this important investment is underway.
Today is also a very important day in the whole calendar of the undertaking, because just today the tender committee, appointed to conduct a tender for the sale of land for the planned construction of the railroad, has finished its work. The proceedings have been settled positively and the most advantageous offer - submitted by PKL SA - has been selected.
The project is scheduled to begin in November/December of this year, with completion in May 2022.
