Representatives of the Parliamentary Foreign Affairs Committee discussed the current situation in Ukraine during an online conversation with the Irish Foreign Affairs Committee. The politicians agreed that in the face of Putin's war with the West, solidarity is necessary, relations between parliaments should be strengthened and the country should not succumb to propaganda and attempts to divide Europe.
Commission Chairman Marek Kuchciński emphasized that it is necessary:
- Continued and unabated condemnation of Russian aggression against Ukraine
- Call on EU and NATO countries to introduce tough sanctions against Russia and Belarus
- reminding that Lukashenko is co-responsible for the war in Ukraine
- Increase humanitarian and military support to Ukraine
- Appealing to the free world to support countries that are the first to accept refugees
According to the interlocutors, Russia must bear the costs of rebuilding Ukraine and supporting refugees. Ukrainian society should receive a clear signal that they are a serious candidate for the European Union. In view of the escalation of the war, a NATO peacekeeping mission should be considered, which could create humanitarian corridors, hospitals, food supplies, medicines, secure the area from the expansion of hostilities.
Irish parliamentarians thanked Poland for its enormous contribution to helping refugees and assured of their support.
