  • 59th Session of the Sejm
  • Visit of the Seimas Chairman. For the first time in the 21st century, the Speaker of the Parliament of another country spoke in the Polish Sejm. Viktoras Pranckietis, Speaker of the Lithuanian Parliament, touched upon the common history of our countries in the context of the 100th anniversary of their independence. Remembering it, respecting it, we look into the future - he emphasized. - The Baltic states should integrate. We are becoming more active in the field of security (strengthening NATO's eastern flank) and energy (e.g., a common position against the construction of Nord Stream 2). We bet on development of infrastructure, communication and cultural cooperation. We are looking for a recipe to strengthen the EU, we are also guided by the principle "nothing about us without us". - said Marek Kuchciński, Speaker of the Sejm.

  • National Day of Remembrance of the Disclosed Soldiers. - Ceremonies on the occasion of the National Day of Remembrance of the Aged Soldiers are a time of deep reflection on the Polish painful past. It is also an opportunity to recall the heroes of the anti-communist underground. Heroes whose honor was tainted by the regime's propaganda, and whose names were to be erased from the pages of the history of our country forever. The fault of those who were condemned to oblivion was their love of freedom, loyalty to patriotic tradition and Christian principles. The Conclave Soldiers fought unevenly against the totalitarian system and resisted the security apparatus. They did not believe in a quick victory. However, there was a hope that in the future Poland would again be an independent country. After long years of the People's Republic of Poland, history acknowledged them and at the same time demanded the truth. The soldiers of the freedom underground are becoming more and more deeply inscribed in the collective memory of Poles. For many of us they are an unrivalled example of courage and bravery," wrote the Speaker of the Sejm in a letter to the participants of the celebrations.

The main topics of the meeting were the place of the Visegrad four in the EU, including in the face of Brexit, the problem of migration, the disappearance of European values, and joint economic and transport initiatives. - I believe that during all possible international meetings, not only at the level of parliament presidents, we should pay attention to the fact that the basic European values are not only those that derive from the free market principles or certain formal and legal mechanisms that organize our international life, but that the foundation of these values are, coming from the axiological spirit, Christian values - said Marek Kuchciński, Speaker of the Sejm.
