Sculpture is one of the oldest plastic arts in the world, along with painting. It carries a non-illusory, simple, spatial and sensual character. Sculpture does not lie, it simply is - in all its simplicity... With this unique language of sculpture, the works of Ms Anna GULAK speak to us, in which the faces of John Paul II were recorded," said Marek Kuchciński, who attended the vernissage "Faces of John Paul II" with honorary patronage. - The exhibition reminds us of the presence of the Pope in the Polish Parliament. If we recall his message, which many years ago the Holy Father spoke in the Sejm, we can say that it is still current. And after years we can see the face of JP II again within the walls of the Parliament. Today he comes to us and... says nothing. He does not say anything, just looks and thinks. Deeply... When we look into his face, we can see the very essence of art, which at this moment is a dialogue without words... Every face is a book, but this face of the Holy Father is a great book showing the greatness of man,' concluded the speech of the Speaker of the Sejm.
The exhibition presented in the Sejm consists of copies of two Vatican sculptures of John Paul II, which every day decorate the Paul VI Hall in the Vatican, graphics and a papal medal minted by the Vatican on the occasion of the 100th anniversary pilgrimage of John Paul II. During the opening, a letter from Prime Minister Beata Szydło was read. MEP Izabela Kloc, on whose initiative the exhibition was organized, and Warsaw University Museum Director Professor Jerzy Mizołek also spoke.
