Poland and Romania with a common vision of Europe. Meeting between the Speaker of the Sejm and the President of the Senate of Romania

The celebration of the 60th anniversary of the signing of the Treaties of Rome and the meeting of the presidents of Central and Eastern European parliaments in Warsaw are among the most important events on the political scene this year.

- Relations between parliaments are extremely important, because we create the foundations for the work of the government," said Romanian Senate President Călin Popescu-Tăriceanu during a meeting with Sejm Speaker Marek Kuchciński. He added that Romania's vision of development is close to Poland's, the need to respect freedom and sovereignty. In both countries there is also no agreement on a two-speed Europe.

Due to the significant influx of young people from Poland and Romania to the UK, there was a proposal from the Romanian side for a trilateral meeting between Poland, Romania and the UK.

Marshal Kuchciński emphasized that Romania is one of the most important allies of our country. He also drew attention to climate policy and the Carpathian Convention, which aims to conduct a comprehensive policy and cooperation for the protection and sustainable development of the Carpathians in order to improve the quality of life, strengthen local economies and communities, and preserve the natural values and cultural heritage of the area.

According to Marshal Kuchciński we should not stop at common politics. We are united by culture and art and these areas should be nurtured. The interlocutors agreed that the Carpathian region should have a strategy similar to the Alpine or Danube strategy. Macroregions are very important in the European Union. - After the fall of the communist bloc, we wanted to get closer to the West, neglecting regional relations. And this was a mistake - said President Popescu-Tăriceanu.
