Committee on Foreign Affairs solidarity with the women of Afghanistan

On Wednesday, the Sejm's Foreign Affairs Committee voted unanimously in favor of adopting a resolution on solidarity with women in Afghanistan who, as a result of the Taliban takeover, are at risk of losing their hard-won rights to education, work, health care and personal freedom. The motion was also supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Committee Chairman Marek Kuchcinski (Law and Justice) assessed that the project is "a very good, valuable initiative, as timely as possible."

Human rights, guaranteed by international treaties, are the highest value and their observance should be a condition for any political action.

Over the past 20 years, women in Afghanistan have shown determination and effectiveness in pursuing education and studies, acquiring professions and degrees, opening and running their own businesses, and holding political, local government, and social organization positions. The struggle for access to education and work has required many sacrifices. Annually, nearly a thousand Afghan women lost their lives. They successfully broke the cultural and religious stereotype of women's social and professional role. Women constituted 25 % parliament, were active in local government, and were present in areas previously reserved for men.

The bill was submitted to the Sejm by the Left-wing Club
