Marek Kuchciński, Speaker of the Sejm, together with representatives of the government and the presidium of the Sejm took part in celebrations marking the Day of the Veteran of Struggles for Independence of the Republic of Poland and the 77th anniversary of the outbreak of World War II.
On September 1, 1939, the lives of millions lay in ruins. World War II began in our country and our country made enormous sacrifices, and those who fought for its independence deserve the highest honors. September 1 is the day we remember them especially. The Day of the Veteran of the Fight for Independence of the Republic of Poland was established by the Parliament on March 14, 2014. The law speaks, among other things, about the respect and recognition we owe to Veterans. Honoring those who have distinguished themselves in the fight for the independence of the Republic of Poland is obviously an expression of moral obligation of the Homeland to its defenders. At the same time it refers to the glorious traditions of the interwar period when the Polish state surrounded the veterans of the January Uprising 1863 with care and honors.
