Between May 6 and 8, 1945, a battle was fought between units of the Polish NOW-NZW underground and NKVD troops. The Wyklęcie Soldiers lost only 10 men against a Soviet loss of about 70 encroachers.
In a letter addressed to the participants in the anniversary celebrations, Sejm Speaker Marek Kuchcinski stressed that during the long years of communism, the subject of fighting the Soviet invaders was forbidden, and the traces of heroism were scrupulously obliterated. According to Marek Kuchcinski, ceremonies such as the unveiling of a monument commemorating the battle testify to the triumph of truth over lies, of memory over the order to remain silent. - It is no longer necessary to bury the truth deep in one's heart and keep silent about the crimes committed against underground soldiers and Polish society," the Sejm marshal wrote.
