May 3rd is an extraordinary day. It is a day that reminds us, Poles, how our ancestors fought for their country. The act adopted on May 3, 1791 by acclamation was the first constitution in Europe and the second one in the world, after the one in the United States. At that time it was supposed to strengthen the Polish state, today it is an extremely important element of collective memory.
During the celebration of the 3rd of May Constitution, President of the Republic of Poland Andrzej Duda awarded the Order of the White Eagle to those who have particularly distinguished themselves in service to the state and society. Among them are: Irena Kirszenstein-Szewińska, Prof. Michał Kleiber, Michał Lorenc, Wanda Półtawska, Zofia Romaszewska and Bronisław Wildstein.
