In no Western European country did the Germans use such cruel repressions for helping the Jews as in Poland. In spite of that there was a group of people who were capable of the greatest sacrifice, capable of giving up their own lives to save the lives of others. The Ulma family hid eight Jews in their house in Markowa. On 24 March 1944 Wiktoria and Józef, together with their six children and all the Jews, were murdered by German military policemen. The Ulmas were honored with the title "Righteous Among the Nations" and in 2011 the Vatican received the documents for their beatification. Preserved objects coming from the Ulmas' house will be part of the exhibition of the Ulma Family Museum of Poles Saving Jews During World War II in Markowa, which opens on March 17th. The opening will be attended by President Andrzej Duda, Speaker of the Sejm Marek Kuchciński and delegations from Israel, the USA, Canada and Germany.
