Meeting of the Speaker of the Sejm with the President of the Bundesrat of the Federal Republic of Germany

Issues of bilateral, European and international relations were the main topics of the meeting between Sejm Speaker Marek Kuchcinski and the Chairman of the Bundesrat of the Federal Republic of Germany Daniel Günther. It took place at the Sejm on Wednesday, June 12. Agnieszka Kaczmarska, head of the Sejm Chancellery, also attended the meeting.

During the visit, Speaker Kuchcinski picked up on the theme of meeting together and the desire to deepen cooperation, especially within bilateral groups. He also referred to the meeting with the German side at the conference of EU Parliament Presidents in Vienna and the recent #EUROWAR2019 summit in the Sejm. The parties stressed the importance of seeking joint solutions for deepening cooperation.

They also discussed the high turnout in the recent European Parliament elections. Chairman of the Bundesrat of the Federal Republic of Germany Daniel Günther congratulated the very high interest in the elections in Poland and stressed that this is a clear signal of the need to develop cooperation in Europe. He also thanked for the opportunity to meet, noting that cooperation with neighbors Poland and France is very important. He was also very impressed by the Vienna conference.

The politicians acknowledged that their meeting comes at a special time, when both Poland and Germany are holding important and pregnant historical events - the 80th anniversary of the Soviet aggression against Poland and the 75th anniversary of the outbreak of the Warsaw Uprising, as well as the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall and German Unity Day. - Each country has some kind of watershed moment. 1989 and 1990 are the most important dates in the history of our countries, as well as the whole world," said Marek Kuchcinski.

The Speaker of the Sejm also pointed out the role of member states in the decision-making process of the European Union and the possibility of cooperation at the parliamentary level, which can help strengthen the EU and mutual understanding. President Günther acknowledged the need to develop common solutions for the future of the EU to determine the way forward.
