Today is the 155th anniversary of the January Uprising. It was an armed resistance against the tsarist regime, in which the Russian elites considered Poland to be a rightful property and the partition of Poland to be an act of historical justice.
Despite its dramatic course and consequences (the Kingdom of Poland completely lost its autonomy, and was sent to prisons and Siberia), it has become a great legacy of Polish patriotism, struggle for dignity and freedom.
Marek Kuchciński, Speaker of the Sejm, paid tribute to the heroes by laying flowers at the monument to the January Uprising insurgents in Rzeszów.
