On Friday, the jubilee celebrations of the first bishopric in Poland began in Poznan. Saturday's celebrations in the archdiocese under the slogan "Poznań. Christ and us" was attended by the Speaker of the Sejm Marek Kuchcinski.
The Eucharist was celebrated with the participation of the Apostolic Nuncio in Poland Archbishop Salvatore Pennacchio and dozens of Polish archbishops and bishops, including the Primate of Poland Archbishop Wojciech Polak, Cardinal Kazimierz Nycz, Archbishop Stanisław Gądecki, Archbishop Marek Jędraszewski, Archbishop Adam Szal and the Papal Legate, Cardinal Dominik Duka - the Primate of the Czech Republic and Archbishop of Prague.
The Holy Father blessed those gathered. In a letter to the faithful, he said that Jordan, Poland's first bishop, had gone to great lengths, enjoying the extraordinary favor of Duke Mieszko I, to bring the people entrusted to his pastoral care from pagan rites to the Christian faith. - It is right, therefore, that he be remembered by the local Church," Pope Francis wrote.
The papal legate spoke about the Christian roots of Europe. He argued that without a family there is no family, nation or life. - Therefore, our continent is faith and life. Here is clear evidence that contemporary ideologies that deny the unique understanding of man as a man and a woman are not the future but are in decline - he said.
