September 23, 1922. Under Article 1 of the Act, the Sejm authorized the government to "make all necessary arrangements for the construction of the seaport in Gdynia". Within a dozen or so years, the port became one of the largest and most modern in Europe. The city, which was built around it, had over 120 thousand inhabitants.
When Poland gained 147 km of access to the Baltic Sea under the post-war peace treaty, it had no major port, as Gdańsk was to be a Free City under the protectorate of the League of Nations. However, there was too great a need to build a port.
The then village of Gdynia is now Poland's window on the world
