1969: Josef Hlavatý, a Czech worker, immolates himself in Plzeň in protest against the Warsaw Pact intervention in Czechoslovakia
A few months after Ryszard Siwiec's dramatic protest against the Warsaw Pact intervention in Czechoslovakia, Josef Hlavatý, a Czech worker, committed an act of self-immolation in Plzeň. The worst possible cry of helplessness came a few days after another Czech, Jan Palach, set himself on fire.
