Celebrations related to the 40th anniversary of the Ustrzyki-Rzeszowskie Agreements took place in Ustrzyki Dolne. The countryside, humiliated by the communist authorities, fought for dignity, democracy, patriotism and adherence to the universal Church. The Agreements, signed on 20 February 1981, were supposed to ensure farmers ownership of their land, respect for their rights to freedom of speech and conscience, and equality with cooperatives and state farms. By joining with Solidarity in the cities, Solidarity in the countryside played its part in expanding the area of freedom, maintaining the will to resist the communist system with the help of the Church, and in the political changes initiated at the Round Table. Without the Polish countryside the fair development of our country would not have been possible, and without the activists of agricultural solidarity the victory in the first partially free elections to the Sejm and free elections to the Senate would not have been possible. Great respect.
